Winter Fun Coming Soon!
The fall season is in full swing, which means winter is right around the corner. As the snow starts to fall, it will be time to enjoy some of the best activities in the snow throughout the Wood Buffalo area. Here are some of the things you can look forward to as the weather starts to get colder.
Skiing, Tubing and Snowboarding
Spending time at Vista Ridge will provide all the best snowboarding, skiing and tubing in the area. This is the premier facility and many visitors come from hours away to enjoy the panoramic views and downhill trails. Whether you're a novice or a skilled skier, you can find the right trail for you. The facility was expanded in 2011, which provides even better ski trials and a new chair lift.
Northern Lights Tour
One of the best features of the Wood Buffalo area is the Northern Lights. These really come to live in the winter months with dancing green, red and blue lights throughout the night sky/ Residents can enjoy all types of viewing tours through the Fort McMurray Tourist Association.
Curling, Skating and Sledding
If you prefer a bit of fun indoors, taking to the ice is a great way to enjoy the winter months. Of course, you can do this outside, as well. The Frank Lacroix Minor Hockey Arena provides ice for curling, indoor skating and more.
For outdoor fun, you can enjoy the sledding hills and skating rinks throughout the Fort McMurray area with events, such as Shootout on the Snye and so much more.
Snowmobiling
Another great activity for winter is snowmobiling. The Wood Buffalo area is home to a large network of snowmobile trails. These are well taken care of trails with plenty to offer. You can receive education on snowmobile safety and enjoy the Anzac Trail system, along with the Stoney Mountain Trail System, which is the longest in Alberta.
