Soccer Clinic and Games From FC Edmonton Coming to Fort McMurray

Another event has been added to the already packed line up for 2015 at MacDonald Island Park. FC Edmonton announced they will be partnering the city to provide North American Soccer League club plan at Shell Place in 2015 and 2016. They will play regular season home games here and bring another exciting sporting event to the area.

The city and the general manager of the team, Rod Proudfoot, see this as a great opportunity bring even more to an already vibrant and growing community. Team owner Tom Faith and Head Coach Colin Miller were also a part of the contingency providing the decision and announcing it a few days ago.

The games the team will play at Shell Place have already been announced, but the opponents have yet to be announced. The schedule for 2015 won't be announced until December of 2014. FC Edmonton will play one game at the facility in each the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

However, this partnership with Fort McMurray and Shell Place will provide more than just two soccer games. They will also provide a youth soccer clinic from February 7th to 9th in 2014 at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre. This clinic will be provided for players under 16. Coaches and players will lead the clinic and provide instruction for the youth.

As long as these two games and the clinic go well, the club plans to add more games after the 2016 season to the schedule at Shell Place.

FC Edmonton started playing in the NASL in the 2009 season. Last year they finished sixth out of eight teams with a record of 3-7-4. The league now has 11 teams and expansion into Ottawa is expected in the near future. This will bring the second Canadian club to the league.
