Fort McMurray may be most known for the oil sands, but there's more here than just oil. Here are some of the most popular choices throughout Fort McMurray.
Golf
The area is home to three golf courses for those that enjoy hitting the links. The Miskanaw Golf Course is found on MacDonald Island Park and provides plenty of beautiful views. The other two coures include the Fort McMurray Golf Club and Quarry Ridge. All three provide a great way to get outside and enjoy the game of golf.
Spray Parks
Something the entire family can enjoy is the spray parks, which are perfect for kids and parents. Escape the hot summer days with the five spray parks found throughout the Wood Buffalo area. Most of these parks are coupled with other parks, which include playgrounds, trails and picnic areas.
Camping
The campgrounds throughout the area provide plenty of great views of the lakes and plenty for everybody to enjoy. Gregoire Lake Provincial Park is the most popular and includes plenty of beach area, picnic facilities, hiking trails and full-service campsites.
Fishing Lodges
A unique way to enjoy the outdoors is found through the fly-in and drive-in fishing lodges. You can ride in a floatplane to the historic lakes and rivers throughout the area and enjoy a day fishing with a guide. The most popular choices include Gypsy Lake Lodge and Christina Lake Lodge.
Hiking and ATV Trails
ATV lovers will enjoy the Athabasca Sand Dunes Preserve because it contains plenty of great ATV trails for exploration. Runners, hikers, bikers and walkers can enjoy many other trails in the area including the Birchwood Trails.
