Oil Sands Discovery Centre Announces Job Postings

The Oil Sands Discovery Centre is one of the major Wood Buffalo employers and provides the largest oil deposit in the world, the Athabasca Oil Sands. This center provides awareness and knowledge to the public about the oil sands. Currently, they have posted new job openings for a Facility Manager.

This job includes many duties from providing leadership for the center to managing the operations. The Facility Manager will report to the Director of Site Operations and to Fort McMurray Tourism. This person is also responsible for preserving and protecting the history, technology and science of the oil sands.

The duties of the position include:

• Handling site operations and management - Directly managing and direction the operations of the Centre.
• Leadership and Management - Provide coaching and supervision for the volunteers and staff at the Centre.
• Public Programming - Direct the staff on the responsibilities necessary for visitor services and programs.
• Planning and Administrative - Contribute to the overall business strategy and decisions of the facility.

The person right for this position will need to have an extensive knowledge of the policies, regulations and legislature of this type of facility. This includes knowledge of the Financial Administration Act and the Historical Resources Act. Standard practice of museums knowledge is also helpful.

A four year degree in a related field and four years of work experience are required to be considered for the Facility Manager position. Other helpful qualifications include experience in management of a historic site, administration and supervision.
