The holiday season is right around the corner and plenty of events will be held throughout the Fort McMurray area. From special performances to charity events, there will be a little bit of everything for the holiday season. Here are a few of the top upcoming events you can enjoy throughout the region.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Party - November 14th from 8pm to 11:30pm

Wear the ugliest Christmas sweater you own and come out to enjoy live music, dancing and plenty of fun. There will be raffles, a photo area, beverage service, snacks and so much more. Tickets are limited and you must be 18 years of age or older to attend. This event will happen at MacDonald Island and tickets are $40 each.

The $127 million expansion of MacDonald Island is nearly complete. The turf installation was announced as completed by the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. This turf was installed in the SMS Equipment Stadium and in the tournament centre for baseball and softball. This means, the project is not only on time, but also ready to be completed by the set deadline.

The new sports, recreation and event venue will add so much to the Fort McMurray area. With the project on track going into winter, it's likely it will finish by the scheduled deadline and open on time. This is good news for the Fort McMurray area residents.

The Fort McMurray International Airport is showcasing local artist Lucas Seaward’s newly commissioned painting called “Lasting Impression.” This has inspired the airport to expand its art program. The artwork includes four original artworks by Canadian artists featured throughout the international terminal building. Here is what you need to know about the airport art program.

The art program is the perfect touch to come to Fort McMurray’s International Airport since they are striving to be the international gateway to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and to be the country’s premier regional airport. Along the hallways you will see the following works:

CraneThe Golden Buffalo Development Inc. is working to acquire a permit for a new project that will become a Fort McMurray downtown culture and social hub. The permit application was submitted on October 8th to get the site located at 131 Hardin Street.

The plans would help the community long-term. There will be no final word on the approval for a couple of months but it’s expected that there won’t be any issues gaining approval. Here is what you can expect at the new downtown development.

What will the development offer?

The development is going to consist of two towers. One tower would be office buildings while the other will be a hotel. The taller tower will be the office tower sitting at 350 feet tall and connected by a grand podium.  The shorter

Wood Buffalo put together a new Municipal Development Plan thanks to the growth of the area, the job growth that has brought people to the city, and the fact that people are bringing their families here to stay. The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo started the plan in 2011 to outlook what the area may be like for the next twenty years. Chateau Boo is coming back this year thanks to the Fort McMurray Boys and Girls Club. This year’s annual Chateau Boo production will take place on October 25th. Wood Buffalo looks forward to this highly anticipated event every year and this year there will be a newly added “Ghoula,” a ghostly and frightful gala.

What to Expect

The Chateau Boo “Ghoula” gala will start the event off. This first night will feature:

  • Adult costume party
  • Games
  • Music
  • Entertainment
  • Adult beverages
  • Food
